Mary knew it. Joseph discovered it. It was true for shepherds and wise men.

Mystery of this form is like a butterfly. It doesn’t work to chase one.

We are in a season of waiting, and from James we have heard the need to be patient, for the coming of the Lord. Be patient, like the farmer who waits for the precious crop. Be patient waiting for the early and late rains. Be patient through years of drought. Be patient through a flooded Spring. Be patient.

I’ve always struggled to be patient.

Be still and know that I am God.

I imagine there are a few sore, stiff and tired people here today after all the work that is St. Margaret’s fete. Today we take stock of what has been achieved, slow down and take some respite, and reflect on the word of God as it is heard here afresh.

Haggai reports that the people are worn down, fragile, beaten up by the challenges of their world. Over the past few months we have heard of some of those challenges. We recall from Jeremiah the warnings long before the exile to have a right relationship with God. We have heard of the pending exile to Babylon and the inability of the people to even call on God in times of trouble.

Do we know what it is like to love and be loved? If we do, we are well on the way to a sound theology.

Lean in toward God’s love. You will find that Love has been there all along, leaning in toward you.
